In continuing my journey into working out how to draft my own patterns and clothes I’ve made a couple of new jersey skirts! I really, really love jersey. It’s so practical, so comfy and so much easier to get a good fit. I’m still learning how to use jersey with my sewing machine, and I really can’t wait till I get an overlocker (hint hint ) as it will suddenly become so much easier and quicker!
Anyway, I digress! These skirts are based on this jersey pencil skirt I made a loooong time ago. I still really like this skirt, but the slightly crazy pattern on it means I don’t get to wear it all that often – it’s not really work appropriate, and I’ve realised that in order for me to wear my clothes regularly I have to be able to get away with them at work. (Luckily I work in a fairly relaxed office at the moment, though I’m starting a new job soon…).
So I used the pattern that I had already made months ago for a high waisted pencil skirt. You can see how I made it here. This time, however, I wanted more of a gathered look across the front and back of the skirt. This was super simple to do, although a little time consuming! However, I won’t bore you with the details of it now I’m planning a lovely tutorial for you all in case you fancy making one of your own
I made the two skirts different by cutting different lengths - one is above the knee and the other is hopping on the midi length bandwagon. They’re both super practical, but I am totally digging the midi one more, They’re also both floral – er what?? Turns out if you add a gather to a floral pattern it makes it abstract enough for me to totally love it
I think these skirts are super flattering – this is coming from the girl who hates her hips and therefore most things that are figure hugging! I just feel so comfortable (and sexy) in these skirts. In fact I feel a little bad only showing them to you now as I’ve been swanning about in them repeatedly for the last week or two…
Back view, cos it’s compulsory to show you a pic of my bum I hope you like them too as there’s a tutorial coming your way soon
